SOAR WV is a Charleston, WV based nonprofit whose mission is to save lives, reduce harm and stigma, and empower individuals impacted by drug use through harm reduction, advocacy, and access to life-saving resources-helping build a community rooted in care and dignity for all.
Together, we’ve distributed over 33,000 naloxone doses since COVID-19.
SOAR WV was created in 2018, in response to the politically motivated shut down of the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department’s harm reduction program. We’ve worked since then to fill the crater losing this program has left in our community.
We’ve hosted dozens of town halls, cultural events, and health fairs to challenge stigma and save lives.
Ongoing SOAR WV efforts include:
- Regular naloxone distribution (over 300 doses/month, focused on reaching people most at risk of overdose)
- Monthly mutual aid meetings
- Monthly community cleanups (Unstuck Chuck)
- Support and coordination of a four, free 24/7 access naloxone vending machines across Charleston.
