More than 30,000 doses of naloxone were distributed across West Virginia during this year’s Save a Life Day on September 26, with volunteers in all 55 counties participating.

“We gave out over 15,000 kits. That’s over 30,000 doses—statewide,” said Joe Solomon, co-founder of SOAR WV.

This life-saving event began in just two counties in 2020 and now reaches every state east of the Mississippi. In West Virginia, SOAR led coordination efforts alongside partners like the Pallottine Foundation, Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, and CareSource.

While a few counties postponed due to Hurricane Helene, the day marked a massive collective action to fight overdose deaths—with more than 60,000 doses distributed nationwide.
